The Kenwood 110

As you might have seen, at the CCM Show we were lucky enough to be entrusted with the Land Rover Defender 110 of JVC Kenwood. But this is no ordinary Defender, and whilst it started life as a 110XS, it’s now become a whole different spectacle used for showcasing Kenwood’s awesome Wireless Carplay system and their audio upgrades. But the speakers arent the only thing that has changed… Let’s take a dive into the rest of the mods.

If you’ve seen the James Bond film Spectre, then you might think that you recognise this already. And you’d be right.

Whilst Land Rover originally built 12, with around 3 being destroyed in the filming, the rest have ended up in collections and so on. But Urban Automotive offered a ‘Spectre’ package, which is what this 110XS has received.

Lets start at the ground, wheels and tyres. It’s sitting on 16” Weller Spectre wheels, wrapped in 36” Maxxis Trepador tyres. These are hiding the Tarox 325mm F2000 discs with 6 pot callipers front & rear to stop the thing. Then, lifting it further off the ground is a 2” OME lift and Bilstien B6 suspension. Further up again is a Safety Devices external roll cage which really sets it apart. Then to add just a little more height, a Safety Devices roof cage on top, which is what the Latitude Explorer is mounted to.

The 2.2 Puma engine has also had a Stage 2 tune from Bowler to help make it a little less slow.

Bolted to the roll cage are 4 x Lightforce LED Roof Lights, there to shed light on any situation.

At the front of the truck is an Urban Bumper and Black Pack Grill which also sports a Warn Industries Zeon 10S Winch to pull you out of any sticky situation. Plus the wheel arches and bonnet ropes are part of the Spectre kit.

Other touches made across it include a Land Rover snorkle, Land Rover A-bar, Rear SVX LED Lights, a Westafalia Nato Hitch, a Bowler Lightweight Steering Guard and Nolden Headlights.

Moving inside, the first thing that will grab your attention are the pair of Recaro SVX CS front seats finished in Ambla leather. Not a common sight thats for sure, but they make the questionable Defender driving position a little easier to sit in. Plus the leather door cards made by D-Class to match.

There’s Optimill Interior Trim including the pedals, gear knobs, door handles, grabs & surrounds, doorpins & surrounds, centre console dress kit & heater controls. Oh and if you didn’t see it at the show, Kenwood’s 10.1” Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto multimedia unit with Garmin Navigation DNR992RVS (can you tell that was copied and pasted?). It looks great in there and worked seamlessly over the week pairing up to our phones to play music. We need one for our Landy now…

The other tech built into it included;

High-Definition rear view camera

Integrated dash camera

13cm component speaker in factory locations (oversized)

High-end 3-way custom speaker system in door & dash

12” carbon subwoofer in custom-sealed enclosure behind the rear seat

8” under-seat active subwoofer on the centre console

4 Channel Hi-Res audio amplifier for 4 speakers & door/dash setup

Class D mono amp for 12” subwoofer with dash control

Marine waterproof speakers in the rear tub

Full custom audio system installed by BCSS London.

All in all, a system that meant we got told off everyday by the staff at the NEC for it being too loud! So hopefully they’ll have us back again…

Thanks again to Kenwood, James & Keith and of course everyone who stopped by to have a look, take a picture and have a climb inside the tent.
