Morning With a Mercedes
Recently we we’re lucky enough to be fitting a roof tent to a rather special Mercedes. Callum came over to our HQ in Frome, Somerset, where we had the roof tent pre-assembled and ready to bolt to his car. Once parked up and after a bit of chit chat, we lifted the roof tent onto his car in a matter of moments. The Mercedes-Benz factory option roof bars which were already fitted to the car gave a great solid footing for the tent, and before you knew it the instal was complete.
With little time taken up Callum then suggested if we had time then how’d we fancy going to get a few snaps of it opened up. So we grabbed a camera and drove just outside Frome to a small forest area.
To the untrained eye, this car can be seen like any other silver Mercedes estate. But this particular model has been fettled with by AMG, so it sports a 5.5-liter supercharged V8 engine pushing over 500hp! So pulling away from junctions in our car following Callum felt quite pedestrian, but soon enough we arrived at a small wooded area to run through how the tent opens & closes.
The Mercedes was parked up and in a couple of minutes the roof tent cover was unzipped, ladder extended and the tent folded open.
What was thought to be a quiet spot out towards the Mendips, as soon as the roof tent was opened it seemed to draw in crowds. Multiple families walking by soon came over to check out the tent and ask some questions, mostly kids though asking if they can climb inside at their parent's disapproval. Where ever these Latitude roof tents get opened up they’re greeted with positive comments and surprised faces when those interested find out it can fit on their car, be it a hatchback, estate, saloon, or anything else - all you need is a set of roof bars!
The dense tree canopy combined with a bright summer morning meant for some interesting light coming through the leaves. A nice spot though could even be a nice place to stay as the sun starts to set and walkers become few and far between. With pictures taken we folded down the roof tent as quickly as it went up, removing the ladder canopy pole, folded the tent over, collapsing the ladder, and zipping up the travel cover on top.
